Metamorphosis
When the digital era was just coming of age, answering the phone, "Gnotek Studio" for a high tech studio became ridiculous. Silent "G," sounding as "No Tech," gave the impression of one of those guys who refused to give up their keyline board. You know, "In the old days we used to mix rubber cement..." Anyway, though Gnotek Studio was established for about seven years at the time, it was definitely time for a name change. And, a directional change. New media was absolutely the way to go. Adding sound, music, video and interactivity to static communication. Adding LIFE to communication. But what name?

Multimedia and the Information SuperHighway (ISH) were the big buzz terms at that time. Overused and hyped beyond reason. The book Mind Over Media makes mention of the term "cyber," coined from science fiction writer William Gibson meaning human/computer interaction. (This was before "cyber" became an overused and hyped beyond reason buzzword). However ISH was out, though that was where Gnotek Studio was heading. So knocking ISH a bit, "Alley" was chosen. But not Information SuperAlley. CyberAlley. Of course at the time no one knew what CyberAlley meant, but it did allow for an ice-breaker upon pitching new media concepts.

So after three years of pitching ideas, procuring and producing multimedia and Internet projects, CyberAlley finally overrode Gnotek Studio in work produced, Gnotek Studio being traditional print graphic design. This little Macromedia Director piece was put together as a digitial announcement, letting clients past and present know that Gnotek Studio was now CyberAlley. It includes artwork, animation, music, sound fx, and communication; plus it all fit on a 1.3 MB floppy, the hi-tech medium of the day.

Gnotek Studio Interactive Portfolio

The Gnotek Studio Interactive Portfolio showcases graphic design projects, along with a photo imaging and collaboration example as well.
This Macromedia Director project was created as a handout via floppy disc. One of the biggest challenges was the balancing act of image resolution and content amount. The result was an interactive, multimedia portfolio with over eighteen samples, with a musical slideshow introduction.

CyberAlley Introduction Multimedia Ad

The CyberAlley Introduction Multimedia Ad was CyberAlley's first new media project, combining stills, a soundtrack, sound FX, animation and contextual information on a single 1.5 MB floppy disc in a 470x285 pixel presentation.
This Macromedia Director project was created as a handout via floppy disc to introduce CyberAlley - New Media Communication to existing Gnotek Studio clients as well as prospects interested in this exciting, emerging new medium. An ominous soundtrack underlies the scene as digital sparks fly from around the corner in this old world alley until a swoosh and a power surge whips out of the alley into the virtual new world. CyberAlley is forged. Lines of capabilities roll in and fade out until the soundtrack and imagery fade out.
