Digital Media Resources CD-ROM
This CD-ROM program was conceived in 1995 and made available early 1996 as a resource for advertisers, graphic artist and the media. Traditionally, the need for Holley product photography would entail contacting Holley Marketing, pulling (and refiling) desired transparencies from the archives, ordering duplicates and shipping the dupes out. The recipient then had to have the trans scanned in order to use the image. Keep in mind, this was pre-1996 and a good tranparency scan ran $50-75 or more at the time. The need had to be great to put a Holley product on printed advertising material. And, it was!
What CyberAlley, in conjunction with one of Holley's long-time agencies - Phil Gibbon & Associates, came up with was to include all 300 photos (hi-res scanned), 90+ pieces of line art and logos and feature text on a single CD covering 550 Holley products. Unit cost was about $6 each including an instructional mailer. The savings to Holley for time and expenses was $35-40,000 annually. And no cost whatsoever to the end recipients. Well, perhaps a phone call.
Extensive testing proved JPEG format to be a very worthy cross-platform format, allowing inclusion of all 300 photos at hi-res/ CMYK/ 4x5 inch; for both Macintosh and Windows, all on one CD. A very intuitive interface (not simply a CD-ROM archive) was designed to allow both a direct route to parts needed for a quick download session, or by product line for those who choose to browse the products by category. Users also had a choice of 8-bit, 16-bit, or 24-bit operating modes, 8-bit offering the quickest performance; 24-bit, the highest monitor resolution; and 16-bit, a happy medium. Remember, pre-1996. Computers were quite slow way back then, especially those Windows machines.
Holley's DMR was created with Allegiant's SuperCard for the Macintosh version, and Asymetrix's Multimedia Toolbook for the Windows version.

World of Performance CD-ROM Presentation
This presentation was a promotional add-on to the Digital Media Resources CD-ROM to highlight Holley's riveting history. With nearly a century of performance history, the theme was Past, Present and Future.
This Macromedia Director (Macintosh/Windows) movie begins high concept with a faint outline of a staging Christmas tree against a dark background, wind blowing gently. As the background dawns, the tree becomes more defined, background voices gather, a distant rev is heard, then-- the tree lights up-- positioning lights, loud revving engines, the crowd cheers-- AMBER--AMBER--GREEN--the sound of tires peeling out and a roaring crowd. The tree is smothered in a cloud of smoke as the crowd hoots and hollers. The smoke clears as the racing cars fade into the distance. The visual is still, only the staging Christmas tree.
The background crowd sounds smoothly bridge the visuals into a Quicktime movie of an actual drag race. An upbeat tempo fades out the crowd sound, segueing the presentation into a rapid slideshow of racing snapshots and Holley involvement. A voiceover introduces The World of Performance and continues through for the remainder of the presentation, about five minutes.
The remainder is a combination of narration, static visuals, animations and Quicktime inserts presenting Holley's illustrious past, innovative present and visionary future. History buffs are treated to little known facts such as the Holley brothers started out racing motorcycles in Pennsylvania, successfully built cars in Detroit and championed early carburetion technology. Performance enthusiasts are shown the Holley of today is much more than the carb company from Detroit. And any skeptics are shown Holley will be around strong and competitve well beyond their 2003 centennial mark.

Interactive System Selector
Originally a website feature, this like any portion of Holley's website can easily be segregated and distributed individually. Though this program could be promoted solely, it was distributed with Holley's Digital Photo CD.
The purpose of this HTML-based program was to choose the correct Holley products for a complete, integrated system. Parameters were based on horsepower requirements and whether small or big block for Chevys. This was a very handy tool to determine what manifold to use with what carb for a specific horsepower range. Then to see what fuel pump, camshaft, timing chain, piston, etc. matched up.
Digital Photo CD-ROMs
After the success of the Digital Media Resources CD, the function was transferred to the new Holley website, launched Fall 1996, where updates could be placed and retrieved immediately. Nonetheless, the demand for the availabilty of all product photography within a single CD-ROM was still high.
The Holley Photo CDs became an immediate staple to Holley's marketing arsenal. Holley was acquiring various companies and continuously updating their own products, so that a constant need was required to update the CDs. A solution like DMR was just too costly for changes that were happening not annually, but monthly and sometimes weekly. Dozens and sometimes hundreds of CDs were being shipped at a time. CyberAlley took a platform-independent, HTML-based approach to the solution, creating a simple and easy to use interface, segmented to the main product lines. This allowed drop-in updatability. When the website got updated, so did the CD archive, allowing-- CD-on-demand. This model has proved useful and reliable from 1997 to present.
